Wigan Athletic newboy Daniel de Ridder insisted that Latics were the better side after the unlucky defeat at the hands of European Cup finalists Chelsea.
Latics suffered their second successive defeat at the hands of the London club; something which de Ridder insists makes the players even hungrier for points.
"We were the better team. We had the chances to score a goal and we were unlucky not to get one."
"We are very itchy to get the points in, that's what is important but we must also take the positives from this game as well.
"Chelsea are one of the best teams in the world so to play against them like we did is very positive. Normally we should be the ones running the clock down as a smaller team but Chelsea were really glad their game was over today."
De Ridder, who came on at half time for Welsh international Jason Koumas also heaped praise on the Latics backline: "We stood well against them and the back four were very stable, it was a good game for them."
"To concede the goal very early on was difficult but I think we stood well against it. In the game itself we were the better team."
"It was a fantastic free kick by Deco, that is his quality. He doesn't hit it like that every time, that was his lucky one."
De Ridder also took time to look forward to Tuesday's Carling Cup tie with Notts. County and insisted that it would be taken very seriously.
"We are taking this game seriously and of course we want to win. We haven't heard anything about the team (for Tuesday) but we are in Tomorrow so we should find out then".
