Heskey 'keeping options open'

Emile Heskey Wigan Athletic pre-season Sheffield WednesdayWigan Athletic manager Steve Bruce insists he is putting no pressure on Emile Heskey to begin talks over a new contract.

Heskey's current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and, with the striker in excellent form for club and country, he is reportedly attracting interest from a number of sides.

Bruce confirmed the 30-year-old is 'keeping his options open' but is refusing to panic as he believes Heskey would be sensible to remain at JJB Stadium.

He said on Sky Sports News: "Emile made it pretty clear to me. He said that 'I am just going to see how it goes and keep my options open' - which you have to respect.

"That is fair enough. I'll try again over the next couple of months or so to see if that changes.

"I think the one thing about him is he's enjoying it here, playing well and got into the England team. So why does he want to change?"
